United Way of the Black Hills (UWBH) announces changes to the annual Day of Caring to follow CDC guidelines amidst COVID-19. Instead of organizing a specific day in Black Hills communities, UWBH is shifting to the Month of Caring for the month of September. Day of Caring was established to promote the spirit and value of volunteerism, increase the awareness of local human service agencies, and demonstrate how people working together for the good of the community can accomplish great things. Participating organizations are matched with volunteers who choose to donate their time and talents to address the needs of their communities. Expanding the Day of Caring to the whole month of September allows coordinators, team leaders and volunteers to organize projects in a way that works best for their schedules. The extra time also allows organizers to plan appropriate safety measures to ensure their volunteering projects follow CDC guidelines. Throughout the month organizations and volunteers will work with United Way partner agencies, social service organizations, civic agencies, private non-profit organizations and neighbors in need. Projects can include lawn care and landscaping, painting, cleaning, and building/repairing. For information on sponsorship packages for the Virtual Month of Caring,
