The Homestake Mine historical music experience: A musical depiction of a gold mine transforming into a scientific laboratory Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 7:30 pm Historic Homestake Opera House 313 W. Main Street, Lead, SD Tickets available at the door, or online at homestakeoperahouse.org Admission is $15 adults, $10 members, $5 students 17 and younger ABOUT: The Historic Homestake Opera House is hosting a professional performing arts concert featuring twenty musicians to perform “The Homestake Mine”, a 5-movement composition by Black Hills State University alum and composer/teacher Jesse Dunaway. The event is a magical music experience, with music and sounds slowly transforming the legendary Homestake Gold Mine into an international underground science research facility. The piece was composed when Dunaway was a student as a final project, and was performed during Sanford Lab Neutrino Day 2015. The piece has been requested several times to be performed again, but the opportunity to host this concert now occurs in collaboration with the Mining History Association. Their annual conference will be held in Deadwood and Lead in June 2018. This event is sponsored in part by Stan Adelstein & Lynda Clark Adelstein through the Allied Arts Fund; the South Dakota Arts Council and the SD Dept. of Tourism through the National Endowment for the Arts; and from the Lead-Deadwood Community Fund through First Interstate Bank. Support is also provided by the City of Lead, and the Adams-Mastrovich Family Foundation.
