Description
Senior Citizen Prom to be held at the Homestake Opera House LEAD, SD The Historic Homestake Opera House invites the public to attend Sydnee Hamann?s Senior Citizen Prom on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The formal event is tailored for the 55 years-and-older crowd, and features an afternoon of dancing to Billboard hits through the decades in the theater at the Historic Homestake Opera House (HHOH) at 313 W. Main Street in Lead. The event is part of the Lead-Deadwood High School program for graduating seniors, called the Senior Experience program. We need to have this event in our community, says Sydnee Hamann, organizer and Lead-Deadwood High School senior. Lead-Deadwoods prom is coming up at the same location, and I think it will be fun for our community seniors to relive their prom. It is not surprising to me that Sydnee has focused her senior project on service to our community, Dr. Dan Liekvold, superintendent of Lead-Deadwood School District. It is clear from this undertaking and her work for the Lead-Deadwood High School Key Club that she certainly recognizes the value in giving back to your town, and I think it's great. Part of our mission here is to enrich the community through music and dance, says Sarah Carlson, executive director of the Historic Homestake Opera House and mentor for the LDHS Senior Experience Program. This program empowers students to be creative and develop community relationships, and it's as impactful on the mentors as it is for the students. The dress code is formal. The event is sponsored by the Historic Homestake Opera House, Lynn?s DakotaMart, Bloomers Flowers & Gifts, and Dakota Party of Rapid City. Admission to the event is by donation to the HHOH. Soda and water is available for purchase, and punch is provided. Free parking is available in the back of the building, and also free off-street and lot parking within 2 blocks of the theater. The building is wheelchair accessible. For more information contact the HHOH office at 605-584-2067 or visit www.HomestakeOperaHouse.org.
