Deadwood History, Inc. and the Deadwood Historic Preservation Commission will host a presentation, Sea Monsters in the Age of the Dinosaurs, at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at the Homestake Adams Research and Cultural Center (HARCC), 150 Sherman Street, Deadwood.  The event is wheelchair accessible.  Please feel free to bring your lunch.

Mosasaurs, Ichthyosaurs, and Plesiosaurs, oh my! These fierce marine reptiles ruled the oceans while T. rex was walking the land. What were these ancient reptiles doing in the middle of South Dakota 70 million years ago? Discover these answers and more with Danielle Serratos, Assistant Director of the Museum of Geology at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. 
 
Danielle Serratos earned a B.S. in Geology at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in 2011. She earned her M.S. in Paleontology from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 2015, receiving the National Science Foundation GK-12 Fellowship. Her thesis was the description and phylogenetic analysis of a new genus of elasmosaur (Reptilia: Sauropterygia) from the Bearpaw Shale in Montana.  Serratos worked for the National Science Foundation-supported STEPPE (Sedimentary Geology, Time, Environment, Paleontology, Paleoclimatology, and Energy) Coordinating Office before joining the SDSM&T staff in October 2016.
 
As the Assistant Director of the Museum of Geology, it is Serratos’ responsibility to oversee the public aspects of the museum. This includes maintaining and updating exhibit displays, overseeing student workers at the museum, managing the museum gift shop, creating and coordinating paleontological education and outreach events, and managing tours of the museum.
