Phantom of Matthews Opera House
That was and is the question for generations. This original melodrama, written by Paul Higbee, first appeared at The Matthews in 1976 and became a summer theater staple for locals and visitors alike throughout the 80s and 90s. You’re going to love this year’s CAST!
In a cooperative joint effort between The Matthews and the BHSU theater department, “The Phantom of The Matthews Opera House” is coming back to The Matthews’ stage for the month of July 2017. It will be performed Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights at 7:30, starting July 3* and will run through August 2.
*Note: There will NOT be a July 4 show.
Under the direction of BHSU Professor, Bert Juhrend, the performances will be staged in the beautifully restored Matthews Opera House, one of the West’s oldest and most beloved venues. Located at 612 Main Street, Spearfish, the opera house is located on the second floor, just above The Matthews Art Gallery. The theater first opened in 1906. We invite you to step into history, take a seat, and settle in for some great laughs and villainous hijinks.
