Las Vegas Solo Pianist Pierce Emata to Perform at the Homestake Opera House LEAD, SD - The Historic Homestake Opera House invites the public for a solo piano concert on the new Yamaha grand piano by Pierce Emata of Las Vegas, NV on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 7:30 pm at the Historic Homestake Opera House at 313 West Main Street, Lead. Pierce Kagari Emata has presented his popular Concerts & Conversation® series, originally developed with an Indiana Arts Commission Artist Fellowship, throughout South Dakota, the western and Midwestern U.S. Emata serves on the summer piano faculty at the internationally renown Interlochen Center for the Arts, teaching master classes and private lessons, and is active as a teacher and adjudicator for various competitions and festivals. Presently maintaining a private teaching practice in Las Vegas, Nevada, Emata is past president of the Nevada Music Teachers Association. In 2012 Emata released his eclectic CD titled From the Hands to the Heart, and is now at work on his next album, Healing Vibrations, funded in part by a grant from the Nevada Arts Council and recorded in Rapid City, SD. Emata will be performing pieces by composers Carl Phillip Emanuel Bach (1714-1788), Claude Debussy (1862-1918), Andrei Schultz-Evler (1852-1905), and Felix Blumenfeld (1863-1931), among others, and also will include a few of his own original compositions. Emata received his Bachelor and Master's degrees in Piano Performance at Indiana University, coaching with notable concert artists such as Alfonso Montecino, John Ogdon, and Gyorgy Sebok. In addition he has coached with John Simms and Istvan Nadas. He appeared twice in the "Sunday Afternoon at Cantigny" series and the nationally broadcast Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concerts, both in Chicago. His performances have also been broadcast over NPR affiliate stations in Washington, Nevada, and on South Dakota Public Radio. Admission for the solo piano performance are $20 adults, $15 HHOH members, $10 students (with college/high school ID), $5 kids (12 and younger). Seating is general admission/open seating. Beer, wine, soda, and water is available for purchase. Proceeds from the performance benefit ongoing operations, programming, and projects at the Historic Homestake Opera House. Free parking is available in the back of the building, and also free off-street and lot parking within 3 blocks or less from the theater. The building is wheelchair accessible.
