Deadwood History, Inc. will host an Elk Workshop at the Homestake Adams Research and Cultural Center (HARCC) on Saturday, April 21, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The workshop is $6 for museum members and $11 for non-members. The workshop is suggested for students in grades K-6. Call Amanda Brown, Education Director, at 605-578-1657 for reservations or more information. Reservations are required.
Students are invited to learn about elk, one of the largest species within the deer family. Participants will discover where elk live, what they eat, and why they are an important part of the environment. Several information stations with fun hands-on activities will be set up and an expert from South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks will be available to answer questions. Students will hear an elk call, compare elk and deer antlers, and examine the skull of a cow elk. Youth will also assemble an elk collage and make a paper elk mount. Light refreshments will be provided.
