LEAD, SD - The Historic Homestake Opera House proudly announces two Valentine's Day concert opportunities featuring Dakota Jazz Collective and Jami Lynn on Friday, February 12 and Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for members, $10 for students (high school and college ID required) and $5 kids (13 and younger.) Seating is not reserved and is general seating. Tickets are available in person at the HHOH in the back of the building on Julius Street M-F 9:00 am to 3:00 pm; or by calling the HHOH office at 605-584-2067; or purchase at the door. The ticket booth is open one hour prior to show time. Dakota Jazz Collective is a Sioux Falls-based ensemble rooted in the classic and contemporary sounds of jazz. Featuring a horn driven ensemble, members of DJC have developed a strong reputation as some of the region's finest and most recognized jazz musicians. Formed in 2004 the ensemble continues to perform concert and festival dates throughout the region. DJC features the classic jazz quintet instrumentation of trumpet, saxophone, piano, bass and drums. Celebrating the local jazz scene, committed to jazz education, and performing across the region, Dakota Jazz Collective shares their passion for jazz with every performance. Dakota Jazz Collective serves as the exclusive band performing the Sioux Falls Jazz & Blues Society's informative jazz concert, the Jazz Diversity Project. Their repertoire is a diverse mix of old and new, featuring several original arrangements by members of the band. Concerts include favorites form Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Cannonball Adderly, Oliver Nelson, Neal Hefti, several from the American songbook, and contemporary jazz composers including Roy Hargrove, Cyrus Chestnut, Christian McBride, and Wynton Marsalis. You are sure to hear many familiar tunes during a DJC concert along with a few new jazz classics. Dakota Jazz Collective personnel includes Jim Speirs, Trumpet; Joel Shotwell, Saxophone; Jim McKinney, Vibraphone; Daniel Heier, Drums; Andrew Reinartz, Bass JAMI LYNN is a northeastern SD native and began performing folk and bluegrass music at the age of thirteen. This versatile singer/songwriter attended USD majoring in vocal performance, studied briefly in Nashville. Jami's second album, Sodbusters, is SD folk songs and the surrounding states and artfully crafted originals. It was played on SD Public Radio and caught the attention of international critics in France and the Netherlands. Jami is a member of the SD Artists in Schools & Communities Program, and was recently featured in the Smithsonian's Shared Harmonies program. DJC and Jami Lynn have toured extensively throughout South Dakota and are featured on the South Dakota Arts Council's touring artist roster. This performing arts event is sponsored in part by the South Dakota Arts Council.
