Description
Black Hills State University is pleased to announce that Canon Explorer of Light Simon Bruty will be on campus.
Bruty was named one of Canon’s, a leading provider of digital imaging solutions, prestigious Explorers of Light. The honor denotes the most influential photographers and cinematographers in the world.
During his career, Bruty has traveled extensively to work on feature stories as diverse as soccer in Zambia, golfers in Greenland, and badminton in Indonesia. He photographs football, tennis, skiing, soccer, and golf for Sports Illustrated. Somewhere along the way Bruty learned how to make people sit still and developed a diverse archive of portraiture including Michael Phelps with his eight Olympic gold medals, Lance Armstrong, Ben Bradlee, and David Beckham among other modern luminaries. His award-winning photograph of Ronaldo was featured in an ad for Canon Europe before the 2006 World Cup Games and in 2003 The London Observer chose one of Bruty's photographs to be included in their list of the World's 50 Greatest Sports Photographs.
The Explorers of Light program began in 1995 to celebrate and highlight the work of outstanding professional imaging creators. For more than two decades the Explorers have been inspiring and educating photographers of all levels. Today, the group is comprised of dozens of the most influential photographers in the world, each a master of their creative specialty.
The Explorers share their photographic passions and technical expertise with eager audiences of photo professionals, hobbyists, and enthusiasts in a variety of personal appearances, seminars, and gallery showings through the United States. Examples of the Explorers’ work may be found online at the Explorers of Light Gallery, as well as numerous museums, galleries, and publications.
This event is one of several that Canon sponsors through a partnership with BHSU, which began several years ago after a donation of cameras, lenses and other equipment to the photography program at BHSU.
BHSU offers a bachelor of fine arts degree in photography. The photography program at BHSU offers classes that span all aspects of the profession from basic to advanced studio and commercial photography. Graduates will find career opportunities in photojournalism, commercial photography, and fine art photography.
