SUMMARY:Me and Martha: Intimate Reflections
DESCRIPTION:Preservation Thursday: Me and Martha: Intimate Reflections of Dora DuFran about the Real Calamity Jane\n\n\n\n\n\nDEADWOOD Deadwood History\, Inc. and the Deadwood Historic Preservation Commission will host a presentation by Mary Jane Bradbury\, South Dakota Humanities Council Speakers' Bureau Scholar\, at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday\, April 27\, 2017\, at the Homestake Adams Research and Cultural Center (HARCC)\, 150 Sherman Street\, Deadwood. Please feel free to bring your lunch. \n\nThe name Calamity Jane brings to mind a flamboyant character and icon of the American West. Accounts of Calamity are legendary and she has achieved mythical status in the lore of the frontier. She is a Chautauqua speaker for Humanities Montana and the Colorado Humanities\, and has been an Artist in Residence for the Charles M. Russell Museum in Great Falls\, Montana\, and the National Wildlife Museum in Jackson\, Wyoming. Before leaving Colorado and moving to Montana in 2014\, Bradbury was an interpreter/enactor for the Denver Museum of Nature and Science\, and has written and produced historic events for Four Mile Historic Park in Denver. A member of the Single Action Shooting Society\, her alter ego Alice Palmer enjoys spending time on the range channeling the spirit of frontier women.\n\n\n\nPreservation Thursday is co-sponsored by the Deadwood Historic Preservation Commission\, Deadwood History\, Adams-Mastrovich Family Foundation\, Saloon No. 10\, Fresh Paint\, Homestake Mining Company\, tdg\, Historic Homestake Opera House\, Celebrity Hotel\, and South Dakota Humanities Council\, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
