SUMMARY:Bellman Brown Bag 2017: Adults Creating Art Abroad
DESCRIPTION:Bonnie Halsey-Dutton & Tim Peterson\n\nTwo Spearfish artists\, Bonnie Halsey-Dutton and Tim Peterson have traveled to Europe with their art education ideas to present workshops in Spain and Portugal. They will describe their international teaching experiences and also consider the development of adult enrichment programs locally.\n\nBonnie Halsey-Dutton earned a PhD in Art Education from the University of Arizona in Tucson.\n\nTim Peterson is a local pastel artist.\n\nAbout Bonnie\n\nThe artwork of Bonnie Halsey-Dutton honors stories and explores mankind's connection to the past. Living in South Dakota impacts her imagery\, as her art explores the cultural symbols\, stories\, and ancient artifacts from the region in which she resides.\n\n"As a society\, we are increasingly realizing the need to revisit primal knowledge\; looking to the earth for balance\, just as our ancestors did. My art explores how these influences from the past continue to shape our contemporary world."\n\nAbout Tim\n\nTim's pastel paintings are always based on a factual occurrence. Although he is often able to verify physical details by revisiting a location\, that is never the primary goal. Other paintings must be guided by memory due to the transitory nature of what he has witnessed. It is interesting to him\, the dichotomy between the literal truth of and even and my memory of the same tainted by past experiences and prejudices.\n\nPeterson's aim as an artist is to render his observations as true to his original visions as his skills will allow. Tim often thinks that real art occurs at each instant of recognition before craft has an opportunity to put into play its own interpretation.\n\n \n\nWhat is the Bellman?\n\nThe Bellman Brown Bag series is a humanities program designed to explore ideas\, history\, literature\, art and culture. Programs are presented on the second Wednesday of each month\, noon to 1:00 p.m. Designed to begin and end within each lunch hour\, patrons are invited to bring their lunch\, if desired\, or simply enjoy an hour of learning and entertainment.
