SUMMARY:Art Workshop: Printmaking
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Bonnie Halsey-Dutton offers 5 different Saturday workshops in August and September\, 2021.  Each workshop is a 3-hour class and is limited to 6 enrollees\; ages 16 and older. Participants must register in advance to reserve a place so please call Artifacts Antiques and Art at (605) 641-8758. All workshops run from 8:00 am   11:00 am. Each workshop fee is $80.00 per participant and is tailored to meet a wide variety of participant needs and abilities. The instructor introduces each workshop with a brief demonstration\, and then is available to work with participants individually. Most art materials are provided\; but attendees may also opt bring their own. \n\n \n\nSaturday\, August 21\, 2021:  Journaling as a Bridge to Creativity\n\nPeople are often more familiar with self-expression through use of the written word than through drawing or painting. Therefore\, journaling can foster creativity in a variety of ways. Participants should bring a "journal" of their choice\, whether it is one they have already begun working in\, or an unbound ream of blank paper!  Bring a writing implement of choice\; a variety of art materials and journaling prompts are available. \n\n \n\nSaturday\, August 28\, 2021: Beginning Drawing\n\nWhether you are a total beginner or wish to brush up on prior knowledge\, this class introduces a variety of drawing techniques to improve your observational skills. Still-life objects from the adjoining antique shop offer a variety of subject matter.  All supplies are provided.  \n\n \n\nSaturday\, September 11\, 2021: Perspective Drawing\n\nUse of basic perspective drawing techniques enhances the realism of drawings and paintings. The principles of one and two-point perspective drawing are introduced along with techniques to utilize when drawing realistic still life objects.\n\n\n\nSaturday\, September 18\, 2021: Printmaking\n\nLearn basic block printing techniques and make your own prints. This class utilizes sharp printmaking chisels to engrave into a soft flexible printing block. Participants may bring simple imagery\, or utilize instructor-provided subject-matter. Hand-transferred prints will be made in black and white during the workshop. \n\n \n\nSaturday\, September 25\, 2021: Abstraction with Water Soluble Oil Pastels\n\nOil pastels designed to react with water are an exciting way to explore abstract artmaking.  The elements and principles of art will be discussed as participants explore a variety of approaches utilized to create art in an abstract manner.
